Going to the Gym
|
Furnish me with your tales of lump to athlete...
I'm going away in 5 weeks and for the last couple I've been in the gym. By no means am I Jabba the Hut or SOA, but I'm not Carl Froch either.
So WHOers who like a run, weights, physical endurance battles. What is the key to long term success and focus?

I like going in the mornings. Means by the time you're starting work you've already been active for an hour or so and are fully properly awake, and have "achieved something" while most cunts are still rubbing their eyes posting memes about hating mornings on facebook.
Going any time in the evenings where I live means it's fucking rammed as well.

Personally I've found the key to a successful relationship with my gym is to sign up, make sure the direct debit is sucking a big chunk of money out of my account every month, and then almost never set foot in the place.
On the rare occasions that I do feel compelled to visit, I use my determination and willpower to turn right and go into the cafe, where I can eat and drink stuff and avoid all the unpleasant machines and sweaty people upstairs.

Dunno if the OP has received any good advice or not, as after seeing the names who've posted on here recently, I'm not bothering to read the rest of the thread, but...
The keys to long-term success are realistic targets and discipline.
If you set yourself a target of dropping 10kgs in a fortnight, you're most likely going to be disappointed. If you set yourself a target of 10kgs in two months, you're most likely to be successful.
You're most likely to be successful if you're disciplined. Going for the first couple of weeks is great. You'll probably eat healthier for those two weeks, and you'll definitely exercise more. BUT, after those first two weeks it's 50/50 whether that discipline continues.
A lot of people will think they've got it sorted then and perhaps miss a gym session to go and watch the football at the pub, or grab Maccas on the way home etc, "safe" in the knowledge that they're doing enough outside of that to compensate.
If you want to be successful long-term, you have to remain disciplined and committed.
You have to look at your overall lifestyle to really achieve results - diet, sleep and exercise all need to be working in synch.
Joining a gym, or doing the Atkins diet etc etc is short-term. Changing your lifestyle is the best way to hit your target weight, for example, and keep there.
I'm not a qualified PT, or dietician, or anything like that, but my wife and I (her mostly) have quite a bit of experience in both fields which I'd be happy to share with you PB.

The only bout SOA is getting is Syphilis.
The fat cunt has caught it off his Mrs, who in turn caught it whilst getting fucked up the arse by Tyson.

I've seen loads of boxers wandering around Vegas...
See Mike Tyson at least once a month around town, met Golovkin at the Venetian , stood next to Bernard Hopkins at the bar in the MGM Grand last year & saw Marvin Hagler at Starbucks at the airport.
Someone at work said they saw Floyd Mayweather at the traffics lights last week.

Went along to the Peacock when he was in London but happened to be one of the many who got locked out from seeing him after some idiots tried to smash their way in through the front doors
Left a good hour before he came out to sign a few autographs as well. Proper gutted
Met Audley 4 times. 1st time he thought I was on a windup and threatened to knock me out

It's just down the street from my office, not been there but he's there most days from what I've been told.
One of the kids at the gym I go to sparred with him before the Paquiauo fight, said he's a nice guy when off camera, gave loads of advice.
Got a trip to LA booked so going to stop by the Wild Card gym where Cotto trains & go to Big Bear Summit Gym where Golovkin trains.
